Diesel Service & Supply recently sold and shipped one of the 4 MW Caterpillar C175-20 Generator sets in our inventory to a nuclear power plant. This generator was targeted to be used as the primary source of standby power for a number of the plant's safety systems.
Nuclear Power Milestone
This is a milestone project for us. It adds an additional facet to our generators supplying emergency power to critical or vital operations around the globe. A few examples of industries that have critical or vital operations are:

The list can be expanded to include any situation that requires redundancy in power supply. When selecting a back-up power supply system for a critical operation it is important to consider manufacturer, hours on the unit and generator capability.
Diesel Service and Supply was chosen because the availability of lower hour generators and the processes we implement prior to delivery. This includes a trip to the shop to have an in-depth inspection process conducted. After initial inspection generators are load tested. Our staff arranges shipping with approved shippers. Shippers must meet rigid requirements for transporting equipment. Paying close attention to every detail allows us to be the world's largest used generator providers.
Nuclear Power Plants & Power Generation
A nuclear power plant uses a nuclear reactor to heat steam. The steam produced powers a steam turbine connected to an electric generator. On September 3, 1948 electricity was first generated by a nuclear reactor in Oak Ridge TN. This reactor powered a light bulb. On June 27, 1954 the world's first nuclear power station to generate electricity for a power grid started operations in the Soviet City of Obninsk. Refer to Wikipedia

The reactor's cooling system removes heat from the core and transports to other designated locations. This is a critical operation. Feed water pumps supply water to the steam generator and nuclear reactor. Pumps are controlled by the feed water system.
Nuclear Power Plants are required to have redundant power supplies to critical systems such as cooling systems, alarm and warning systems and shutdown systems.
It is not certain where this generator will be used as a redundant power supply. However, it is ready to supply emergency power whenever the need arises. We consider this a milestone because our product is trusted to supply back up power for a tightly regulated and controlled industry.
